Sokhumi Releases Georgian Prisoner
In EU-brokered deal authorities in breakaway Abkhazia released a Georgian army veteran who spent 19 months in Abkhaz jail. Malkhaz Kordzaia was handed over to EU’s special representative for South Caucasus, Peter Semneby, in Sokhumi and then escorted by EU diplomats over the administrative border on the Georgian-controlled territory.

Date determined for Georgia`s local self-government election
Local self-government elections will be held in Georgia on May 30, the spokesperson of the Georgian president said at the briefing on Saturday. Manana Manjgaladze said the parliament is discussing the constitutional changes, according to which May 30 has been determined as the date for the local self-government election. `In order that all political parties including the opposition political parties have opportunity to better prepare for the election and better plan the election campaign, the president addresses the legislative body to adopt in time the law defining May 30 as the date for the local election`, she said.

Mikheil Saakashvili due to Arrive in Kutaisi Today
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is due to arrive in the city if Kutaisi, Imereti region, today. He will open a wood refinery mini-factory, opened by a private entrepreneur, there. 30 local people are employed in the factory with the wage of 300-400 GEL. Mikheil Saakashvili is likely to visit Torpedo stadium, where rehabilitation works are under way. The stadium, in compliance with FIFA standards, is to be opened this year. The President is to arrive in Kutiasi in the second half of the day. He is visiting the city for the second time this week.

Snow Falls all around Georgia
It is raining in seashore districts of western Georgia, and snowing– in mountainous districts, InterpressNews was told by the Forecast and Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Environment Protection. It is also snowing in Tbilisi and eastern Georgia. Synopticians say snow will stop and freeze will increase tonight. There will be -4;-2 degrees in Tbilisi. Weather will be improved in western Georgia tomorrow.
