Prosecutor`s office arrests four in suspicion of document counterfeiting
Four people were arrested in suspicion of embezzling budgetary funds. The director of the Kavkas-Avtomagistrali JSC. Mevlud Datashvili, head of the construction and exploitation department Nikoloz Metreveli, heads of the production branch Murman Kalatozishvili and Vazha Mamulashvili were arrested by the Georgian Prosecutor`s office today.

US embassy expresses condolences

Georgia welcomes choice of Ukrainian people
Georgia welcomes the choice of Ukrainian people - Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Nino Kalandadze announced at today`s briefing. She said Georgia saw no danger of having a gap in the relations of Georgia-Ukraine`s relations. `Despite our sceptical attitude to the candidacy of Viktor Yanukovich, Georgia is determined to continue cooperating with the government of Ukraine under any leader,` Nino Kalandadze said and added that there was no possibility that Ukraine would revise relations with Georgia in regards with visa free regime and the support to territorial unity.

Saakashvili: Ukraine is Georgia’s Strategic Partner
President Saakashvili said after polling stations in Ukrainian presidential runoff were closed, that “the Ukrainian democracy has won.” “Many European countries may envy the way how elections in Ukraine were held,” Saakashvili said while speaking in Shuster Live talk show on Ukraina TV late on February 7.

Grigol Vashadze to Visit Republic of Italy
Foreign Minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze will pay a working visit to the Republic of Italy today. Meetings with Foreign Minister of Italy Franco Frattini, chairperson of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini and representatives of other political parties are planned within the two-day visit. Vashadze will visit Republic of Portugal after Italy. Bilateral meetings are planned in Lisbon with State Minister of Republic of Portugal, Foreign Minister Luís Filipe Marques Amado, State Secretary for European Affairs Pedro Lurt, Chairperson of parliament of Republic of Portugal Jaime Gama.

Shevardnadze’s former advisor detained in USA
Temur Basilia, former economic adviser to President Eduard Shevardnadze, was detained in the USA on 4 February. He has lived in the USA for the last few years demanding political asylum. He appeared on TV in 2009, attending one of the events of the Strategic Research Centre of America, but did not express any desire to talk to Georgian journalists and threatened to set the police on them.
