Hidden in dark corners, cobwebs are symbolic of darkness and despair. However, Ia Mghebrishvili, a Georgian painter who has invented a unique form of painting with cobwebs, uses them to create beauty, light and inspiration. Her paintings, most of which revolve around Biblical themes, are about the triumph of love over hatred and light over darkness.

Art and talent prevailed over politics at The Fourth Tbilisi International Piano Competition when the international jury awarded the 1st prize to Evgeny Brakhman from Russia. “I guess that the relationship between our peoples is still the same, and I could see it from the audience and the people,” Brakhman said. “So I can say that music has triumphed over politics this time.”

The Chveneburebi International Festival opened at Mtatsminda Park in Tbilisi on October 1. This is the 10th festival of its kind in Georgia. Folk music ensembles from all over the world participate in the festival, which is held under the auspices of Giuli Alasania, a Georgian historian and mother of the President of Georgia.

The Shota Rustaveli Academic Theatre hosted the tenth International Fund of Journalists Golden Wing awards ceremony on 9 July. The first prize winner was the publisher of the Georgian Times Nana Gagua. The Golden Wing was founded in 2002 and has been bestowed on more than 100 journalists, public figures and artists.
