Child infected with meningococcemia

A new fact of meningococcemia has been registered -a five year-old child has been hospitalized with the diagnosis to the Cetre of Infection Disease from Batumi. The child has hemorrhages on whole body and suffered from high temperature.

The doctors said the child underwent treatment in the Batumi hospital and his state is satisfactory at the moment. The child is safe now.

This is the 26-th case of meningococcemia in Georgia in 2009 and ten of them ended fatally.

Shevardnadze’s former advisor detained in USA Temur Basilia, former economic adviser to President Eduard Shevardnadze, was detained in the USA on 4 February. He has lived in the USA for the last few years demanding political asylum. He appeared on TV in 2009, attending one of the events of the Strategic Research Centre of America, but did not express any desire to talk to Georgian journalists and threatened to set the police on them.
