Carl Bildt comments on EU Eastern Partnership Program
The EU Eastern Partnership Plan may influence situation in Georgia`s breakaway Abkhazia and South Ossetia - Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt — whose country currently holds the EU`s rotating presidency anounced at the conference dedicated to the Russia-EU relationship in Washington.
`We hold diaolgue with Georgia and Russia. Although we have not succeedded in negotiations held within the Geneva format, however, we are permanently working on the issue,` Bildt said.
The Eastern Partnership is meant to complement the Northern Dimension and the Union for the Mediterranean by providing an institutionalised forum for discussing visa agreements, free trade deals and strategic partnership agreements with the EU`s eastern neighbours, while avoiding the controversial topic of accession to the European Union. Its geographical scope is to consist of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
