Pressure on Journalists to be Followed by Restriction of Real Journalism
Pressure on journalists will be followed by restriction of real journalism and strengthening of yellow press in Russia. The corresponding statement was made by Andrey Rikhter, the director of the Institute of Media Legislation and Policy, at the sixth international media conference opened today in Tbilisi. According to him, pressure on journalists is permanently increasing by the government and business in Russia. They fire, punish and violate rights of journalists to avoid publication of undesirable materials about them. As a result journalists abandon political journalism and go to entertaining one. According to Mr. Rikhter, investigative journalism should be developed in Russia. Two-day international media conference for South Caucasus countries has been opened today in Tbilisi aimed at increasing the level of journalists’ qualifications and discussing new challenges.
