The International Court of Justice demands additional arguments from Georgia and Russia regarding the lawsuit filed at the Hague Court by the Georgian government. The Spokesman of the International Court of Justice, Hisasi Owada has spoken about the case Georgia against Russia during the video conference in the Ria Novosty news agency.
Hisasi Owada said the lawsuit filed by Georgia was prepared in accordance with the Georgian jurisdiction. After the primary consideration, the jury decided to apply to temporary measures against Russia, as it was requested in the lawsuit. However, Hisasi Owada said that it was not the final measures regarding the case and for further discussion of the lawsuit, both sides were obliged to submit additional evidences and arguments.
`The aforementioned lawsuit was filed by Georgia in August 2008 and since then we have been dealing only with one aspect of the lawsuit, because it is against Russia specifically about racial discrimination. This aspect covers the request of Georgia to apply to the temporary measures against Russia and we have satisfied this request. It is notable, that the existing international convention about torture allows one side to sue another and so it happened. The similar lawsuit corresponds with the UN legal jurisdiction and the court continues to work on the case. Both sides, Georgia and Russia must meet the terms of the convention on which the decision was based. For further development of the case we are expecting additional arguments from the sides,` Hisasi Owada said.
