Giorgi Targamadze – USA is Ready to Increase Aid to Strengthen Democratic Institutions in Georgia
US administration plans to provide financial aid to support democratic institutions and civil sector in Georgia,’ leader of Christian Democrats Giorgi Targamadze stated about it after meeting with James Steinberg and Philip Gordon.
‘US government is ready to increase aid to strengthen democratic institutions in Georgia. We hope the future elections in Georgia will be new basis for consolidation of society,’ Targamadze stated.
Leader of parliamentary majority asked US officials to have closer coordination with government of Georgia for the leadership to be more restrained and attentive when responding to the provocations from the Northern neighbor.
Meeting between US Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg and Assistant Secretary of State European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon and representatives of Georgian opposition was held at the residence of Deputy US ambassador to Georgia.
One of the leaders of Alliance for Georgia Davit Gamkrelidze, Leader of Democratic Movement – United Georgia Nino Burjanadze, one of the leaders of Protect Georgia Levan Gachechiladze and leader of Christian Democrats Giorgi Targamadze attended the meeting.
