Irakli Okruashvili was subjected to pressure, opposition says
Representatives of the opposition parties say that Irakli Okruashvili was subjected to pressure and made admit guilt, as charged.
According to Davit Zurabishvili, leader of the opposition Democratic Front faction, Okruashvili either yielded to pressure or deliberately admitted the guilt to be able to come out of prison and continue its struggle against the administration.
MP Zviad Dzidziguri says that the confessions by Irakli Okruashvili would not effect work of the opposition’s union, which would continue efforts for achievement of its goals.
Koba Davitashvili, leader of People’s Front, urges society to ‘rescue Irakli Okruashvili’. According to him, it was clear that Irakli Okruashvili was subjected to pressure.
As for the members of the ruling party, they say that confession by Irakli Okruashvili came as a surprise to them. The MPs highlight connection of businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili to the recent developments and say that he is prone to statements that damage country’s efforts, though he is not immediately engaged in political developments.
Irakli Okruashvili, who was detained for alleged corruptive deals on September 26 and who had publicly accused the administration and the President of criminal activities, several days before his detention, admitted his guilt on October 07. According to him, he accused the administration for political considerations. The video footage of his confession was published by the General Prosecutor’s Office on Monday.
